Homepage My Biography Labs 2-8 My Highlights from GSLIS Reflections from This Semester and My Future Plans

This semester I have vastly built upon my personal knowledge of HTML coding. Before this course I had basic knowledge on HTML coding, but now I can add CSS, Javascript, Atom and FileZilla to my list of coding skills. I now possess the skillset to create my own website from start to finish.,

Through this course I learned to create multiple pages of HTML and how to connect them using CSS. I learned to code a stylesheet so that I do not have to re-type the same formatting code on each page of my website. Probably the most challenging task I faced this semester was with Javascript. This allows me, as the creator, to make my website more interacting, interesting, and fun for users. However, if one letter in the coding is incorrect, the whole thing will not work right. This was the hardest and most stressful part of the semester. I stuck with it; though, and now I can apply the Javascript skills I have learned to this new website.

Beyond my website, I have learned to evaluate other site, and look at the changes made to site through the years. As technology, styles, and user’s needs develop, the websites we create need to adapt. I examined that growth and user’s abilities this semester during my comparison and usability tests, as well as in developing my treemap.

My plans for the future, in regards to coding, are to maintain the skills I have learned here and continue to build them. I do not directly use coding in my job now, but you never know when that will change. Technology is growing so rapidly and is such an intricate part of life now that I feel it is in my best interest to learn as much as possible. I will do this by continuing to use the HTML W3Schools website and search for other coding classes or services offered in my area.
